When Cyclone Ditwah tore through Sri Lanka's classrooms, Technocity committed LKR 80 million to putting them back together. Four months later, 39 schools and 18,326 students have working digital learning environments - not donated boxes, but complete labs.

The challenge
The challenge
Cyclone Ditwah destroyed digital infrastructure across the North Western Province. Schools lost not just computers, but the entire environment around them - furniture, power, the ability to run a class at all. Replacing hardware alone would have solved nothing.

The Journey
The Journey
From the first assessment it was clear this could not be a donation drive. Schools didn't need machines on a table - they needed rooms that worked on the morning they reopened.
Where It Started
In December 2025, Technocity and Laptop.lk pledged LKR 50 million to the national Rebuilding Sri Lanka Fund - LKR 20 million in cash and LKR 30 million in equipment - presented to Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya at Temple Trees. Working alongside the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Education and North Western Province authorities, the scope of the damage became clear. The equipment commitment was doubled to LKR 60 million, taking the total initiative to LKR 80 million
How We Built It
Nine fully equipped IT laboratories were built from the ground up. Each received Intel Core i5 desktops with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD storage, 22-inch monitors, and the tables and chairs to seat a full class. One Zonal Education Office in the North Western Province was upgraded completely, so the administration supporting those schools could function as well.

Across four months, from December 2025 to April 2026, the programme reached 39 schools and 18,326 students. Every installation was specified so that a teacher could walk in and run a lesson the same day - no missing cables, no half-finished rooms, no equipment waiting on a part that never arrived.
That standard came from twenty-eight years of doing this commercially. The same logistics network that moves hardware to 600+ channel partners across the island was pointed at classrooms instead.
What It Leaves Behind
The labs are not a gesture that ends with a photograph. They are working infrastructure in 39 schools, and they will still be teaching students long after the storm is a line in a history book
"Our intention was not simply to donate computers, but to provide complete facilities that students and teachers could genuinely use."
